Metallic spin glasses

چکیده
Recent work on the zero temperature phases and phase transitions of strongly random electronic system is reviewed. The transition between the spin glass and quantum paramagnet is examined, for both metallic and insulating systems. Insight gained from the solution of infinite range models leads to a quantum field theory for the transition between a metallic quantum paramagnetic and a metallic spin glass. The finite temperature phase diagram is described and crossover functions are computed in mean field theory. A study of fluctuations about mean field leads to the formulation of scaling hypotheses. Metallic spin-glasses beyond mean-field: an approach to the impurity-concentration dependence of the freezing temperature.
A relation between the freezing temperature (T(g)) and the exchange couplings (J(ij)) in metallic spin-glasses is derived, taking the spin correlations (C(ij)) into account. This approach does not involve a disorder average. The expansion of the correlations to first order in J(ij)/T(g) leads to the molecular-field result from Thouless-Anderson-Palmer. Employing the current theory for the spin ...
متن کاملQuantum field theory of metallic spin glasses.
We introduce an effective field theory for the vicinity of a zero temperature quantum transition between a metallic spin glass (“spin density glass”) and a metallic quantum paramagnet. Following a mean field analysis, we perform a perturbative renormalization-group study and find that the critical properties are dominated by static disorder-induced fluctuations, and that dynamic quantum-mechani...
متن کاملCrystallization Kinetics of Metallic Glasses
Metallic glasses are kinetically metastable materials. Metallic glass is defined as “A liquid, which has been cooled into a state of rigidity without crystallizing”. Properties of metallic glasses differ form non metallic glasses. Ordinary glasses are made up of silica while metallic glasses are made of alloy metals. Ordinary glasses are transparent whereas metallic glasses are opaque. In ordin...

In this paper, we review the recent activity of our group on the study of disorder effects on systems displaying phase coherence. These studies have focused on both the electronic transport through mesoscopic metallic spin glasses, and cold atomic gases trapped in a disordered potential.
متن کاملCluster-assembled metallic glasses
A bottom-up approach to nanofabricate metallic glasses from metal clusters as building blocks is presented. Considering metallic glasses as a subclass of cluster-assembled materials, the relation between the two lively fields of metal clusters and metallic glasses is pointed out. Deposition of selected clusters or collections of them, generated by state-of-the-art cluster beam sources, could le...
